Cleanliness: 3.5

The wear on the sofa, bed headboard, and carpet.

While the bathroom and general dusting were adequately handled, the older fabric sofa had visible stains that made sitting directly on it uncomfortable. We resolved this by requesting a blanket from the hotel to cover the sofa. The bed’s headboard, although not visibly stained, had sagging cushions and a worn-out texture. Similarly, the carpet looked dated and had a musty smell. While the cleaning itself was satisfactory, the aging facilities impacted the overall sense of cleanliness.

Comfort: 4

Spacious layout with a convenient separation between the bedroom and living room.

The 2 Double Beds Suite offered 600 square feet of space with a distinct living area separated from the bedroom—a key reason we would consider returning to this hotel. When we travel as a family, we often cut costs by preparing simple meals. The living room was perfect for this, providing enough space and comfort for dining.

The living room also led to an outdoor balcony with a clean and well-maintained ambiance, offering a pleasant view of downtown Palm Springs. The patio setup allowed us to relax comfortably. Noise from the balcony was minimized due to the layout, where sound needed to travel through the living room before reaching the bedroom. This meant a quiet night’s sleep, even while others enjoyed downtown late into the night.

Although the headboard of the bed appeared somewhat unhygienic, making it uncomfortable to lean back against, the mattress was supportive, and the overall atmosphere was calm and relaxing.

Location: 5

A prime spot for exploring downtown Palm Springs

As shown on the map, the hotel is perfectly situated for exploring downtown Palm Springs. Bordered by E Alejo Road to the north and W Baristo Road to the south, with S Palm Canyon Drive at its heart, this area is walkable and filled with restaurants and attractions. Hyatt Palm Springs sits at the center of it all, making it an excellent choice for travelers with plans to spend significant time downtown.

Facilities & Ambience: 3.5

Modern and clean interior, but the unpleasant smell in the parking garage

The lobby design reflected the art theme of downtown Palm Springs. The open interior, with hallways overlooking the main lobby, was reminiscent of the Luxor in Las Vegas. Spacious seating areas in the lobby created a relaxed vibe, and the two transparent elevators were convenient and easy to use.

However, the parking garage had a strong sewer smell that left a poor first impression. The odor was limited to the garage and was not noticeable within the hotel or downtown. We parked closer to the entrance to minimize exposure but had to endure the smell whenever accessing the car. Each time we left the parking area, we opened the car windows to air it out.

Weak risk management—delayed response to issues and unsatisfactory handling

After returning from our day’s activities, we heard a loud crash in the bathroom. A large, framed picture had fallen off the wall, shattering on the floor. Broken glass shards were scattered across the bathroom and sink. Fortunately, no one was in the bathroom at the time.

We immediately messaged the front desk but received no reply. Visiting the desk directly, we found it overwhelmed with guests dealing with technical check-in issues, resulting in a long wait. Once we explained the situation, they promised to send someone, but it took 20 minutes for staff to arrive. They cleaned the floor but missed the sink area, requiring another call.

The entire ordeal lasted nearly 50 minutes, delaying our evening plans. Although staff eventually resolved the issue, there was no follow-up, apology, or reassurance. The staff seemed busy dealing with the front desk’s congestion, so we didn’t feel the need to complain about this issue. That said, the staff wasn’t rude or unkind. They were generally friendly throughout our stay. Since the issue was eventually resolved, we decided to let it go and ended the day without letting it affect our trip.

Value for money: 3

Considering the above factors, the hotel fell slightly short of expectations for its price. Its excellent location and spacious living area were financial advantages, allowing us to reduce dining costs. However, issues with cleanliness, service, and facility management made us reconsider a return visit.

Additional Fees:

  • Parking: $30 per day, totaling $60 for our 2-night stay.
  • Taxes and City Fees: Approximately $35 per day, or $70 for 2 nights, including the Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT), TBID assessment fee, and CA assessment fee.

Overall: Hyatt Palm Springs Hotel

The theme of this trip is to enjoy a relaxing retreat while experiencing small adventures in nature. The hotel’s location and ambiance allowed us to experience downtown Palm Springs as a peaceful getaway. While some issues arose, they were manageable for travelers who are not overly particular about accommodations. However, addressing the aging facilities will be essential for ensuring repeat visits.
